Kochi, October: Today, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) unveiled two customized Hilux vehicles, which were adapted with the assistance of an authorized external vendor, at East Tech 2023 (ET2023). This annual technology showcase event is organized by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army in collaboration with the Government of Assam. The primary objective of this event is to foster the development and production of state-of-the-art indigenous defense technology, aiming to achieve self-reliance (“Atmanirbharta”) in the defense sector. This year’s event marks a significant advancement in the Indian Army’s efforts towards synergy, research and development, and innovation for the modernization of the armed forces.

After conducting a thorough market survey to understand the diverse mobility requirements, particularly those of the Indian Army, TKM, in partnership with an authorized external vendor, has made specific modifications to the versatile Hilux (two units were displayed). These tailored vehicles demonstrate TKM’s commitment to providing unique solutions that meet the specific needs of various customers, including the military, and support evolving mobility requirements in various sectors, promoting the concept of ‘Mobility for All.’

As a result of the market survey, TKM has introduced two distinct modifications to the Toyota Hilux: the Field Diagnosis Vehicle (FDV) and the Forest Patrolling Vehicle (FPV), each designed to address the unique needs of the military and other specialized consumers. Given the operational and logistical challenges faced by the Indian Army, including diverse terrain and climatic conditions, the need for customization and dedicated solutions has become evident. The FDV is engineered to provide crucial vehicle servicing in remote areas, aiding the Army in defense sites. On the other hand, the FPV assists the Indian Army in patrolling, surveillance, and comes equipped with fog lamps for enhanced night vision, digital video recording, and a winch for emergency rescue operations.

In addition to these modified versions, the standard Hilux, designed for general customers’ personal and business use, was also showcased at the Expo, which took place from October 10th to 11th at the Mani Ram Dewan Trade Centre in Guwahati. In July 2023, TKM delivered a fleet of Toyota Hilux vehicles to the Indian Army, marking the company’s first-ever such delivery. Furthermore, in September 2023, Toyota exhibited two additional modified Hilux vehicles, the Field Diagnosis Vehicle (FDV) and Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV), in collaboration with an authorized external vendor, at the North Tech Symposium organized by the Northern Command of the Indian Army.
